Pre-owned Art

Regular readers will know by now that I am a minimal kind of girl at heart - but I just couldn't resist some paintings spotted whilst out and about trawling the charity shops.

Rather than small pieces of art, or even objets d'art as I prefer to call them as opposed to that general cover all title of crap that Stephen uses, I like larger items.  Just one will do instead of a few smaller pieces.  So when I spotted this oil painting in the window of a charity shop I had to go and take a closer look.

It's pretty big , about 2 foot wide by 3 foot.  And the frame was already painted white - perfect and ready to hang in the dining room.  It has initials on the painting and the date 1958 - so it's pretty old.  Always a good thing in my book.  The best part about it was the price: £10.  It was coming home with me.

The other painting (or I should say print) that I have recently acquired is now installed in the cloakroom.  Perched on the top of the cistern.

Flowers again - just can't get enough of them.

Cat

I'm not sure what this cat card was used for originally, unless it was meant as a gift.  The ribbon to hang it up was already attached and there is a price of one shilling and nine pence pencilled on the back.  I found this at the boot sale for 10p and rather than inflict it on Stephen, have hung it up in the studio.  There is only so much floral stuff that a man can take!

I will leave you with a photo of Arthur having hijacked Maudie's bed has gone to sleep.  How he can sleep like that is anyone's guess!

He just cracks me up! Poor pusscat being put out of her house though :( Does she hijack his bed instead? Very cool find, that oil painting. Love it!

Great buys love the 1958 pic, what a bargain. As for Arthur well really!!

what lovely finds!! That is so funny that he took the poor kitty's bed and slept so silly! :)

Love those giant pictures. I'm going to start looking for new art this spring. I have been neglecting the second hand shops recently!
As for Arthur - obviously a complete nutter!

Great Find on the paintings. Why is it I can never find art that nice in the thrift shops! My guess is that Kitty was a tag attached to a garden trowel.

HI Sam, nice photo of Arthur, he is growing!!!! Sorry I missed you on Thursday. The print is really pretty, will have to pop over and see it! LOve Theresa xx

love the pictures - and love the idea of art in the 'cloak room' - my aunt in london had a wonderful potrait of my uncle in the cloak room...

Wow I love the first picture particularly; well doen samantha. The pic of Mr Peacock made me laugh too xx

Hi, the flower paintings are lovely. Bet they look great in your home. And what a funny position Arthur has chosen...just shows how animals can sleep anywhere.

I think he is doing that bike riding exercise we used to get made do at school. I love that painting. Good to catch up again. I haven't been around much but it's nice to be back.

Ahh Arthur is not the only canine who sleeps in odd positions. My doxie, Beulah, when comfortably laying in the sun, will go spread eagle with all four paws dangling in the air! Now I just have to make sure the camera is handy when she's like that again!!
