Gift
Look what I received in the post. A beautiful brooch from Lisa at Primrose Hill Interiors .
She was so helpful and generous with her hints on attending a CL Fair. Amd as these things happen, we have struck up a friendship. Such a lovely lady.
So what a lovely treat to receive this. Thank you so much Lisa. I shall be adding it to my outfit.
Another little treasure that dropped through my letter box is this pattern for sock monkeys. I have wanted to make one for a while and won this on e-Bay at the weekend. Maybe it'll spur me to to actually making one rather than just thinking about it.
Last night we all went up to Ethan's new secondary school to get him kitted out with his new uniform. The school is very strict with the uniform which I totally agree with, but they have the monopoly on selling the uniform, as it isn't available at any of the uniform shops. And the school will not allow any shops to stock it.
So there you have it. £150 worth of school uniform. And what exactly is in that pile? Three polo shirts, a fleece, a sweat shirt, a games rugby shirt, a games t-shirt, games shorts and two pairs of sports socks. No school shoes, games trainers or trousers. Absolute extortion. At this price, he had better not lose any of this and I wil be spending an evening sewing labels into every item of clothing.
Anyway, time for me to get down off my soap box and announce the prize draw winner. The prize is one of my crazy patchwork lavender sachets
And the winner is
Sarah from Pink Petal Designs Hope you like it!
I know exactly what you mean about the school uniform - I've just taken my 4 year old to be kitted out for his new school in September and came away £500 lighter !!!! Again, no shoes (or PE kit !) It makes me so CROSS !! Sorry - whinge over ;o) But how gorgeous is that brooch? You're very lucky !! Sarah xx

Don't get me started on the cost of secondary school uniform!! Wait till they start losing it! `My eldest has completely outgrown everything this year and we're back to square one again! Love the brooch and want to see one of your monkeys!

The more things change... I started high school in 1970, in New York, and we suffered the same extortion! The ugly plaid skirt alone was $60.00, in 1970! I got one blazer, one skirt and maybe 3 blouses and made it through all 4 years wearing them, except maybe got a couple new blouses. When I lost a lot of weight, I just sewed a huge lumpy seam up the side of that ugly pleated thing and wore it like that. Oh and the gym costume was atrocious, like something you'd see in a 1950's prison movie. On the other hand, I didn't need a lot of other clothes then, and it did make getting dressed in the morning easier!

Golly the school uniform is expensive you will have to stop feeding Ethan so that he does not grow out of it!

We are due at the new secondary school on the 10th when we will have to do a similar thing. Lucia is really looking forward to getting her new uniform although she is still a bit unsure about the 'new school' bit.

I think I can beat you all on the uniform front I have twin boys starting secondary school in September, think of all the lovely pretty things we could buy with that money.

My Claire's school was like that. Luckily (in a way) I was on benefits for half the year leading up to the new school start... and I got vouchers for the blazer and sports kit. Thank God! Now she's at College and wears what she likes she's forever moaning she's got nothing to wear. You can't win.

Uniform are not so bad when you just have to replace odd bits but all in one hit-ouch!
And the buggers don't stop growing!
