Sneek Peak finally revealed!
Here is the sneak peek reveal (better late than never) : coasters. As with many small items, they were quite fiddly. Involving cutting out two pieces of fabric for the top which were sewn together with the trim in the middle like jam in a sandwich.
The back was a single piece and there was wadding in the centre. Sewn together, turned inside out and the raw edges sewn together. Pressed with an iron and voila. I have put them together as a bundle of four, tied with ribbon and a button in the centre. I think the finishing touch will be a little tag in the centre under the button - just in case people don't understand what they are.
So , a little long in revealing all, but got there in the end.
This week was the last in the school holidays as the boys go back to school on Tuesday. Thankfully the only major purchase was two pairs of school shoes and a pack of two polo shirts each. I am quite old fashioned and a bit of a stickler and insist on black leather school shoes NOT trainers. Since they have never been allowed trainers for school, it's just something that the boys have accepted and to be fair to them, they never grumble about it. It makes choosing school shoes so much easier.
To add insult to injury I've told them that 10.00pm + bedtime has to stop this weekend and they need some early nights before they go back to school. Bad Mother!
Apart from having a huge garden blitz and school friends over this week, I have started work on the side panels for the gazebo.
To keep things simple I decided to make each patchwork piece approx. 36 inches square. It makes life easier in terms of cutting out and sewing together, but did narrow down the fabric choice to vintage sheets and curtains that I had thrifted over the years as nothing else was big enough. The main time was spent sorting through the boxes and digging out fabric big enough.
But, stage one has been completed and all the pieces have been cut out and sewn together. Rather than see the inside raw edges, I think that they are going to have to be lined like curtains. I have a white king size duvet cover, that I am hoping will be big enough for two sides. Hopefully I just then just get some cheap lining fabric for the other two.
And yes, I am wondering what in the world possessed me to start this project!

I can't wait to see you're gazebo finished!
I find it a little hard to picture it yet, but I'm sure it's going to be lovely!

What a mean mother, I bet you make them eat VEGTABLES too! I agree with you though, I don't give my boys much choice about things like that either.
Love the sewing ... as usual.
