Father's Day.... but gifts for our feathered friends
Yesterday was Father's Day and yet again I was stuck with what to buy my father. You know how parents are : there isn't really anything that my parents need, and if there is they tend to buy whatever it is for themselves.
Stephen brought home a newspaper supplement with some recipes for bird feed in them a while ago. That's what I decided to make for my father. That, plus a bird feeder that I bought for him.
I decided to go the whole hog and make this bird food as appealing as possible. So may I present to you: gourmet bird food. All made by my own fair hand.
Pine cones collected from the park with a fat ball mixture pushed between the cones. String attached to hang them up with.
The coconut shells were bought already filled. But being the meanie I am, I kept them empty shells. And I was so glad I did, as they were filled with the same mixture as the pin cones.
Rock cakes for the birds.
Fat balls with peanut butter and oats etc in them. These were quite stick y do do, but they ended up circular in shape (just about anyway!)
The finished basket. Looks good enough to eat doesn't it?!
And Stephen was not left out of the equation either. Home made Father's Day cards and come sweeties bought by the boys with their own money.
Here's to dads!

my late father would have adored that! well done you!
father's day here involved indian cookery books for hubby and the kids handpainted a t-shirt for him to wear to bed(!) how very UNrefined! his mother would be horrified!
have a lovely day

Lucky birds!
Try buying presents for a grandfather who holidays in Korea and Dubai. That's hard!

What a great idea. My other half is desperate for a bird table but with the cats that use our garden as a corridor I think it would be too cruel.
But gourmet bird treats, how splendid!
