Books
It's all been about books these last few days. At the car boot sale, charity shops and a second hand book sale that just happened to be on as I was in town to pay some bills. Lucky that!
One book was a chance purchase on e-Bay: Flower making by Voilet Brand. Turns out that it is quite a mediocre book, but what made me laugh was the sticker placed in it by Pembrokeshire County Library
I dread to think what kind of infectious disease the library means should be reported! Perhaps they are more stringent up in West Wales!
Two books were withdrawn stock at the library. £1 for two hard back books can't be bad.
I've seen this for sale on e-Bay and not really been tempted to buy it. But I'll have a flick through and see whether anything catched my eye.
The second withdrawn book is Crafty Clowns by Di Campbell. Again this is another book I've seen for sale on e-Bay.
I will have to make to some time and have a good read through these two.
My favourite is this little booklet that I picked up for 20p from the car boot sale this weekend. I bought it purely for the illustrations. It is about the Garden Route in South Africa.
Looking through the booklet I guessed that it dates from the 1950s or maybe early 1960s.
This must have been really exotic during the 1950s.
I had a real panic this weekend thinking about my submission for Plush You II. I had the idea that the softies had to be sunmitted bty 20 June . After having mulling over some ideas at the weekend I settled on the idea of patchwork animals. I have been inflenced by Shula's chicken. It was part of a chicken swap. So I think patchwork it will be.
The idea for the second softy is some kind of teddy bear from vintage velvet. The idea popped into my head as I was dropping off to sleep. I leapt up from bed, ran out in to the dinig room and quickly sketched my idea.
As the deadline for submission is July 20th, I am going to start my softies this week. And sneak peeks will be posted.

That chicken is awesome. And I'm anxiously awaiting pictures of your creations.
Infectious disease? What were they thinking they'd find?

Well infections must have been a real mistry back then, how old did you say that book was?

Infectious diseases. That's funny. Can a book really be a carrier of infectious disease?
The last two pictures are my favourite. It's fun finding old books and things and imagining life in the time they came from.

Ack - so that is why they wear gloves when they re-shelve the books!

Now I know the reason why some people don't like borrowing books from the library - i haven't caught anything myself!

I once had the Dolls in National Costume book. I so reget having sent it back to the charity shop. Isn't it always the way that you suddenly find a use for something that you have just given away?
