Spring has sprung

I had big plans for today: sewing etc.  But ended up doing gardening instead.

So as I have no photos of finished tasks, here is my garden.  Spring has finally arrived in the UK.  As well as the flowers, the weeds are also doing well.  Which is what the gardening consisted of: pruning and weeding and forking over some of the flower beds.

There are many self seeded plants including loads of Himalayan Honeysuckle and Hypericum. I dug out about three of each.  I think the birds are responsible for these as they are all over the garden.  And the Himalayan Honeysuckle is a bit of a thug.  I am hoping that Stephen will drill and plug some holes in the wall this weekend and the Clematis Armandii will be growing over that instead of the Ficus (I think that's what it is).

Gratuitous shot of Love Lies Bleeding (Dicentra) as it is so pretty and more importantly, it's pink!

I am leaving you with a photo of one of our regular visitors: Mr Blackbird.  He and his wife built a nest in the back garden but unfortunately all the little babies were killed.  I think the neighbourhood cat was the culprit.  But we saw Mrs Blackbird gathering nesting materials today.  Hopefully this may mean she has a second brood.

I have been asked for a tutorial on how to make the camera case.  No problems - I will try and get it up for the end of this week, if not beginning of next.  And for those who would be interested in one, but can't sew, please let me know if you would like me to make some and put them up for sale.

Trolley Update: I have removed the old cover and cut out the new one.  Will add photos when I have some.

Beautiful! I spent about 4 hrs. in our garden this past weekend. So wonderful now to enjoy the fruits of my labor. What would we do without a little piece of earth to grow things?

I'm seriously digging that DO your son is sporting in your last post...that is so great! :)

I've been gardening too yesterday... I've got the dirty nails to prove it!

This is funny... Love lies bleeding is called Small broken heart in Dutch :)

I like the Love Lies Bleeding... I never knew what it was called. I used to call them bleeding hearts.

I love your bleeding heart -- we have one in our yard and it is rather pathetic. I need to move it to a more sunny location, but I've been rather pathetic.

I hope Mr and Mrs Blackbird have better luck with their new babies. Those pussy cats can be mean little monsters (as mine once was, but he favoured sparrows). Enjoy gardening, and spring! It's getting cold here now so I'm spending lots of time locked inside.

I am looking forward to the camera case tutorial, and if I fail may send for one ...... please!
