A small dent in the pile of unfinished projects

A few weeks ago I posted about a shopping trolley that I bought at the car boot sale that needed a new cover.  It was started almost immediately but then just hung around, the pieces cut out but not finished.

Spurred on by the thought that the rain may have stopped enough for a car boot sale to happen this weekend, I managed to finish it up Saturday.   In theory, the plan was very simple.  Use the original cover as a template and make up a new cover in an oilcloth material. The reality was a little different.

But I do have a finished project.

A first attempt at a zipper on the front.  It turned out a little wonky - but works just fine.  I was tempted not to put one in, but without it, the trolley just looked a little too plain.  I also made bias binding to edge the flip cover.

The back was simple to do - there is a little "sleeve" sewn on and this simply slots over the handle to attach it to the frame.  Here's a close-up

When I originally bought the trolley, I was going to spray the frame white.  But after I had chose the fabric, I realised that it went well with the grey frame and didn't end up doing it.

I took the trolley to the boot sale yesterday and yes, it did make life much easier.  Plus the boys even volunteered to pull it for me!  That plane certainly worked!

Just lovely, and I agree with you on the grey frame. You will be the envy of all at the next boot sale.

Oh Samantha, it turned out really nice - looks too nice for car boot sales!!!

WOW! It looks fantastic and that zipper on the front looks great. I bought a trolley the other day, it's cute (red) but nowhere near as cute as yours, i'm a little jealous!

So pretty - is very Cath Kidston (hope you think of that as a compliment - I do!) Am very jealous of it as I could do with one to carry my shopping in... Have just linked to your lovely site!

Wow, wow, wow!!! You did a wonderful job. I'm sure everyone at the car boot sale wanted one after they saw yours. I want one and we don't have car boot sales here.

That is amazing. I couldnt even start to imagine how you did that!!

Your trolley is lovely. What a difference from the original!

This is just fantastic, you've done a great job! I love the fabric you used. Wish I could find a trolley like this one, I only found one that has a wire basket but I did sew a fabric liner for it which you can see through the wire. I'll post a photo on flickr.

I love it! Make me one! I mean, please make me one. ;)

Your shopping trolley looks great! I love the transformation. The trim around the flap and the zipper are the perfect finishing touches.

Hi - Absolutely fabulous shopping trolley. I use one regularly to fetch in the shopping (and go to the car boot sales with it) and only wish I had one half as nice as yours. I agree with Hester, very Cath Kidston - and have you seen the price she charges for hers!!!!

That looks fantastic well done to you.

Lovely ~ well done...looks swish :)

well done indeed!

That looks great! I'm impressed.

The trolley came out so lovely!

And (perhaps the best part), it looks quite sturdy for future car boot sales!

Very cute trolley!!
You're so clever :)

It looks fantastic, brilliant work!

Ever since you posted the old trolley, I've been searching for my own fixer-upper..
As luck would have it, I found 3 in one day!- but didn't buy any, overwhelmed by the project!
But this beauty- WOW!-
You have re-inspired me, and I just might give it a go..
Wonderful job, it looks amazing!

the trolley came out just splendid---I want one too!!

That is gorgeous. I've always fancied an "old lady" trolley as my brother calls them but was put off by the tartan. Hmmmm something else to add to the list!

Judging from the comments, you could easily go into the trolley cover business...and why not? It's by far the most gorgeous one I've ever seen...great fabric choice and great design. Well done!

plus if you add some shoulder straps you could also use it as a backpack. 8-)

I am looking forward to becoming an old lady now!

thanks for the cupcake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
