From Afro to Slicked Back
BEFORE
A few weeks ago son number one, Ethan had his hair braided - but I forgot to take a photograph. His hair needed redoing and he was very keen to get his photograph on the internet! We had to take the braids out a few days ago and wash and condition his hair readty for today. This is the before photograph.
And here is the after :
So he is feeling very pleased with himself! As both of my sons are mixed race (I am white), I have always tried very hard to make themselves proud of their colour and to look at having different coloured family in a positive way - and thankfully they seem to absorbed this way of thinking.
The other plus side to Ethan's hair is the attention that he gets from the other schoolchildren. We live in a white middle class area and the boys go a Welsh school outside the village which is also predominantly white and middle class. As a consequence the children are fascinated with both his afro and more recently his braids - which of course he revels in!
Stage one of the "hard sell" is over as it was the school fair today. So whilst Ethan was with Stephen having his hair braided, Keanan was with me at the fair. And it went really well. I paid a flat fee which went towards the PTA money and the rest was mine. I mainly sold the walnut babies and some lavender hearts which I made and sold many of last year. A few other items went and whilst I was there I gave out some invites to my Christmas night. So I hope that has sparked some interest.
All in all a good day.
How handsome! (And it seems from the look of it, he's happy with the final result!)
Happy to hear the fair went well, too.
